Hi. My name is Federica Monteleone and I'm a student at Clarkstown North Highschool. I have taken Intro to Ceramics, Clay 2, Advanced Clay, and in my senior year I plan to take AP 3D.

The art I create expresses what goes on in my mind and my emotions. When I don’t know how to verbalize what I’m feeling I turn to art to help me. Normally when I’m working with clay, I like to make more sculpture based pieces because it’s much easier to express my creativity that way. My imagination and thoughts show through in the pieces that I make. In a way I feel as if my art shows who I am as a person without giving away too much.

The main tool in creating my art is my sketchbook. Not only does this hold my ideas, but it holds my thought process as well. My sketchbook shows the way my mind works before creating something. I also use my sketchbook to sketch as soon as I feel inspired by something. My sketches are usually only the framework of the piece because there’s only so much you can fit on one small page! Usually I add greater detail as I’m sculpting the piece and can tell how it’ll come together.

Throughout the years I’ve changed drastically as both an artist and a person. The thing I love most about art and being an artist is that I’m constantly changing. Looking at my art from one year ago versus now, you can see that my pieces have gone from dark to light, this goes back to the fact that I base my art off of my emotions. Since I’m still so young, I feel that as I’m finding myself it shows through in my art. I’m eager to see how my art will look years from now.

Why is it a monster?"
